Interview with UI Developer, Mohamad Al Maleh

Hi Mohamad, could you please tell us about yourself?

I am originally from Syria. I have traveled and lived in many countries, such as Egypt, Lebanon, and Turkey, and I relocated to Munich to join the amazing international CELUS team. For almost 10 years, I have been working as a UI developer using cutting-edge technologies, mostly on finance-related projects such as Forex trading platforms and cryptocurrency exchanges. In my free time, I like to listen to and play music, play all kinds of sports, watch football games and spend time with friends.

What do you do at CELUS?

I translate our awesome design ideas into a working web application, get user data from our servers and display it correctly, and make sure that user requests are sent to our servers as expected. In doing so, I make sure that our code is efficient, reusable, well tested, secure, and organized. My job also involves a lot of planning and discussion to provide the best solutions for issues that arise. In addition, twice a month I participate in CodeZen (*internal company event) sessions where I work on problems unrelated to UI development. It helps me discover and explore other areas of web development and breaks up the daily routine.

What kind of skills do you think are crucial to work in IT? What are the skills of a great UI developer?

In general, in IT you need to have a curiosity for new technology, be detail-oriented, learn quickly, have good communication skills, and be a great team player. User interface development is a fast-paced field, so you need to be adaptive and open to new trends and concepts. In addition to technology, you have to make sure to provide users with the best experience while using your product and to make the interface attractive in order to interest new potential customers.

How do you keep up with the industry’s design trends?

From my experience, the first thing is to make education a part of your life. For example, attend design-related conferences, be an active member of the online design communities, be open-minded, get out of your comfort zone, and practice a lot!  

What do you like most about CELUS?

An international vibe, friendly and welcoming team members, the feeling of being a part of a product that will have a huge influence on the electronics business, weekly fun activities and learning on a daily basis.

What is the most exciting thing about your job?

Our CELUS Design Platform is a fast-moving project, where each sprint is a new challenge that keeps me motivated to do my best and provide the best solution. New ideas are very welcome, and our team is well organized and provides me with all the information and tools so that I can finish my tasks successfully.
